Last year I was approached by a local charity to help them create a charity cycle ride event and since then I have been plotting and revising route using various types of software, mainly Strava and Google Street view.

I find Strava an excellent tool for planning routes, but it can lead to problems where Strava will plot a route along a bridle path or a coastal path. This is why I spend hours with Google Street view doing a virtual “ride” of the route to see if I come across any surprises or find a road unsuitable to ride on. So far I have lost count of how many tweaks I have done to make the ride as enjoyable as posible.

Once I have the route sorted and signed off by said charity I will grab my bike and spend the day riding the route to double check for any issues.

I will post an update in the next few months once everything is set in place by the charity.
